Book of the month
The permanent shelf
Every month the club mounts a new exhibition. The team adds titles here and they stay on the shelf forever.
This month's selection
Fifty Years of Tailgate Tales: The Good, the Fun and the Ugly
by Stephen J. Koreivo · Humor & Memoir
Five decades of tailgating memories: the good, the fun and the ugly, told with warmth and a fan's eye for the absurd.
Weekly reading schedule
Four weeks, four conversations
Week 1
Chapters 1 to 7
Opening the exhibition
- What promise does the first chapter make to the reader, and is it kept?
- Whose voice controls the narrative, and what does that choice cost us?
- Which single image from these chapters refuses to leave you?
Week 2
Chapters 8 to 15
Pressure and complication
- Where does the author withhold information, and to what effect?
- How does place function as a character in this section?
- What would change if this section were narrated by the antagonist?
Week 3
Chapters 16 to 23
The turn
- Which decision here is impossible to defend and impossible to condemn?
- How does the prose style shift as the stakes rise?
- What is the book arguing about power in these pages?
Week 4
Chapters 24 to the End
Closing dialogue
- Does the ending resolve the book's central question or reframe it?
- What will you carry from this book into next month's read?
- If you could ask the author one question, what would it be?
